Instagram story camera really not helping with the quality here BUUT to get to the important bit ⬇️⬇️
Why are rest days important?
✨ avoiding burnout
✨ muscle repair, recovery and growth
✨ improve performance
✨ avoiding future injury
What to do on a rest day if you want to move?
✨Minimal movement, such as a:
🚶♀️ Slow walk
🧘♀️ Gentle yoga flow
🧍🏼♀️ Stretch
✨ Even this minimal movement isn’t necessary: this is your time for your muscles to recover so you really shouldn’t be putting strain on them 🌟
How much should I eat on a rest day?
✨ At least the same amount as you do on days you exercise, BUT if you’re even more hungry: EAT! That is your muscles calling out to you! 🤘🏻
✨ You should not feel you have to ‘earn’ food: Rest days are your opportunity to optimise nutrition as your muscles will really be needing fuel 💪🏼
✨ focus on nourishing your body with carbs, proteins & fats 🥘
✨ remember TAKE YOUR CREATINE! You need to be taking it everyday to feel the effects 🥤
How many rest days should I be taking?
✨ depends on your training split, personal fitness, and so many other factors
✨ you NEED to be taking rest days REGARDLESS: 1-2 a week at a VERY minimum ⚠️
✨ Schedule your exercise: make a plan for the week and ensure your rest days are spread apart (I.e. one on a Thursday and one on a Sunday) 📅
🌟 “I’m not feeling sore so I don’t need a rest day” THIS IS SO WRONG. Without rest days, you’re denying the opportunity for muscle growth, or even just recovery, which will lead to fatigue, affecting performance and risking injury 🌟
Now I schedule & ensure I get my rest days, DOMS or not (thanks to @abs_eatsss ensuring I do😜) My training performance has improved, my muscles have grown & got stronger, and I have so much more energy for each workout 🏋️♀️ 💪🏼
